The Wood Pond Conference Center was planned as the centerpiece
of a forty acre arboretum designed to display idealized
plant habitats that exist between the middle United States and
Canada. The architecture draws reference from the turn of
the century mansions of the Hudson River Valley and the many
traditional shingle-style residenc-es of the northeast.
The complex consists of 3 1/2 story main building, flanked by
two one-story pavilions, a total of 65,000sf. The central building houses major
public functions on the first level and bedroom suites on the
upper floors. The east pavilion contains a swimming pool,
greenhouse and a spa room. The west pavilion contains a
central octagonal two-story library, several sitting rooms, and
a sound studio. The lower levels of the building house a
complete health club complex, including a basketball court,
exercise and aerobics spaces, spa and locker facilities, children's
play room, media center and mechanical rooms. Completed in 1990. |
